D62: Coalbed Methane Control Well Requirements
Coalbed Methane is a Biogenic #Gas, extremely high C1, plentiful here in Alberta, perfect for heating homes, ranches, greenhouses, and community centres on our clean natural gas grid. Eventually maybe even #LNG buses and trucks. Coalbed developments all require at least one #AER Control Well. Control wells may be for Desorption test and/or Pressure and Flow Control testing. Initial Pressure tests (segregated pressure for each coal zone) must be submitted within four months of Control Well authorizations. Tests conducted up to twelve months prior to the validation date are acceptable. Initial Deliverability must be tested, either Flow Meter logs (#PLT) are to be conducted over all coal zones, or segregated Flow Tests may be conducted on each coal zone. Pressure and deliverability data from coals are required to determine #CBM reserves and reservoir characteristics, including extent and continuity of the various coal zones.
