Welltest 200: PTA Tool Kit

PTA is a Production Engineering tool when we investigate pump performance. Pump performance is directly related to sandface inflow (AOF, LIT, IPR). Bottomhole tests are therefore recommended, but running pressure recorders below a sucker rod or screw pump, or plunger spring, can be expensive. Planning in coordination with regular workovers and pump changes can mitigate extra expenses. Jet pump optimization requires subsurface pressure monitoring. Permanent downhole pressure gauges, permanent acoustic gauges, emergency shutdown (ESD) gauges, and electric submersible pump (ESP) gauges can all provide excellent data. Surface Acoustic Well Sounder (AWS) technology can be useful when the subsurface is inaccessible due to rods in the hole (and don’t forget to schedule regular dynamometer surveys).
